Atlas & the 3 Valleys
Modernity isn't a big thing in the mountains, where Berber culture and way of life have been present for thousands of years. But
monuments aren't what Atlas Mountains are about – it's the diversity: the gorges of the Ourika Valley, the Berber market in Asni,
trekking and waterfalls in Imlil, the lake of Lalla Takerkoust, alpine flowers on Kik Plateau, wild nature and traditional adobe
villages all year round. These make up for our most scenic Atlas Mountains day trip. Lunch can be arranged at Richard Branson's
Kasbah Tamadot, in a cosy restaurant by the road or with a Berber family. A camel trek can also be accommodated along the route.
Starting off on the road to Ourika Valley and leaving the hectic city behind, you will be amazed to discover how soon the landscape
changes and the plain gives way to valleys and then gorges. Before starting taking on the Atlas, we recommend a break in the
village of Tafza, where we will have the chance to visit a typical Berber house overlooking the area. The house used to belong to an
important noble man and has been restored to its original state by its actual owner. The traditions and customs of Berbers can be
admired throughout the rooms and hallways where the different objects and furniture intertwine with ancient photos, some of
them taken as early as 1900's. If you haven't yet caught your breath from the walk up to the house, the dramatic panorama of the
Ourika Valley can be admired from the roof terrace while sipping a tea or a coffee.
